Year 3 & Year 4

We are the Bitterns and we love being creative in our learning. We have a lovely bright and colourful classroom as well as other learning areas. Our classroom is where we listen, think, ask questions, learn, investigate, work together, try to be independent and most importantly, enjoy being with each other.

We have kind and caring people who help us. Our teachers are Mrs Robinson, Mrs Hodkinson and Miss Sanderson and our teaching assistant is Mrs Forster. We love our teachers and helpers because they make learning fun, they encourage us to always try our best and help us to be independent learners.

During the morning session we do maths, English and spellings.  We then work together, practising skills to develop our maths, reading and writing. We use lots of tactile and visual resources to support our learning and help us remember things. We then use our new skills to work through group tasks or independent challenges. We like to talk about out learning and know that it’s OK to make mistakes sometimes. If we are stuck, we know how to get help. It’s a hard-working and very busy morning for all. We love reading and do lots of reading in class; reading as a class, in groups and individually.

After lunch, we do lots of exciting, interesting and engaging activities to support our cross-curricular topic themes. These may be art, science, geography or design and technology based tasks. We also have access to all areas of learning provision during the afternoons so we can engage in play-based learning too. We have P.E sessions twice a week. Miss Sanderson is our PE lead in school and she teaches us for one of the sessions – learning new skills – multi-skills, games and gymnastics have been some of the ones we have enjoyed recently. Other afternoons may include music, computing and RE.

Like everyone in our school, we like getting out and about by taking our learning outside of the classroom and into our local surroundings. We make use of our amazing school field and the outdoor learning area as often as we can. We use many places around the village as well as Eaves Wood to help us learn. We visit our village library to borrow books and enjoy spending time with our friends at Bleasdale School. To help us explore our topics in a fun and exciting way, we go on regular trips.

Circle Time is very important to us as it gives us all a chance to talk about our good times, our feelings, emotions and worries. Our outstanding behaviour and great attitudes to learning are rewarded by earning golden time on Friday afternoons. During this time, we enjoy free play, arts and crafts, dressing up, cooking and baking or simply enjoying a few moments peace and quiet.

Being a Bittern is great!
